Elementary Title 1 & Dyslexia Teacher
I graduated from Miller Grove High School in 1989.
I attended East Texas State University in Commerce, which is now Texas A & M--Commerce. I graduated in December of 1993.
I majored in Interdisciplinary Studies with a minor in music.
I have been trained by Texas Scottish Rite Hospital to assess, identify, and instruct students with dyslexia.
I have also received training in the MTA program (Multi-sensory Teaching Approach), which is the Dyslexia program we use at Rains ISD.
I attend Dyslexia Handbook Training, so I am familiar with changes to the dyslexia laws.
I attend Dyslexia Roundtable Discussions in the fall and spring to stay current on topics related to dsylexia.
I started teaching at Rains ISD in the fall of 2000 as a 4th grade writing teacher.
This year will be my 17th year at Rains Elementary.
I serve as the dyslexia interventionist for this campus.
My first teaching position was at Yantis ISD. I began teaching 4th grade there in the fall of 1994.
In 1992, I married Robert Burns, who is a graduate of Rains High School. Since that time, we have been blessed with 3 wonderful children—Caitlyn, Colton, and Collyn. Caitlyn is married to Braden, and we now have our first grandbaby, Benjamin. He fills our hearts with joy. We have one dog named Dottie.
Since my husband is a pastor, we are very active in church activities. I help lead singing and play the piano. I also teach the ladies Sunday School class.
When I am not teaching, I love to read, cook, and spend time with my family.
